Gravemarking & Ceremonies
Patriot Ancestor, Member & Veteran’s Graves
The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is deeply committed to honoring the legacy of American patriots, members, and veterans through its National SAR Grave Marking Program. This program encourages local chapters to take actionable steps in recognizing and identifying these graves by placing SAR plaques on the final resting places of Patriot Ancestors and members. Veterans’ graves are similarly commemorated with flag placements. One of the key initiatives within this program is the Revolutionary Graves Initiative, which aims to venerate those who contributed to the American Revolution.
To this end, our Chapter takes the responsibility of placing brass markers and plaques at these hallowed grounds, serving as a public testament to their invaluable contribution to the cause of American independence. In recent times, our activities have included the 2020 Peacock Memorial Day service at Peacock Memorial Cemetery in Medford, NJ, as well as the Smith Meeting House Cemetery event on October 15, 2022, where SJCSAR Ken McGill paid homage to his patriot ancestor, Revolutionary War hero Micajah Smith, by placing an SAR Patriot Grave Marker. Additionally, our Chapter participated in the Wreaths Across America event in December 2021 at Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, NJ, further expanding the scope of our efforts to honor those who have served.
